There’s something truly special about witnessing a home’s transformation.
When we first met with the homeowner of one of our recent projects, we understood her desire to update her home’s aesthetic to a more modern feel. Homeowners often know the feeling they want from a room long before they can articulate the specifics, and our designers know how to transform those feelings into livable, functional spaces.
Although we don’t handle installations, we conceptualize, design, and supply home remodels. Our team works with homeowners and their chosen contractors to ensure their vision becomes reality.
The Backstory
The home, purchased in 1994, had the charm of that era but now needed a modern touch. The kitchen and bathroom (well-loved and often used) were semi-updated when the home was purchased over thirty years ago but had not been renovated since. Our client came to us looking for a more modern, brighter design that would combine current trends with timeless details.
The Vision
Neutral, functional, and classy. The homeowner wanted spaces that would make a statement in 2024 but could easily be updated with decor changes as trends evolved over the years. She also wanted the cabinetry, countertops, and shower design to continue to meet mobility needs as the occupants aged. Many of their nieces and nephews have animals that visit the home, so the flooring had to be durable, scratch-resistant, and aesthetically pleasing.
The Process
After the homeowner initially contacted us, we scheduled an in-store consultation to discuss her vision for the remodel. We talked about the rooms that would need updating and provided a first look at product samples for each update. We then scheduled a time for one of our interior designers to visit her home and take measurements of the kitchen, living room, hallway, and bathroom.
Having measurements of each room allowed us to provide detailed quotes for the materials she’d need once she finalized the product options. For the flooring, she took samples home to see how they’d look in her home’s natural light and against the furniture she owned. For the kitchen and bathroom, she gathered samples from around the store to show how they’d work with each other. She finalized her decisions over the next couple of weeks, and we began placing the orders. We contacted her and her contractor throughout the process to provide updates on delivery estimates and material updates.
Kitchen Remodel
Before
The pink paint and countertop sheen had faded over the years. The dark cabinet, wall, and beam colors absorbed rather than reflected light, making the space feel smaller. The peninsula countertop protruded too far into the walkway between the dividing wall and the rest of the kitchen. The end of the peninsula was not properly utilized as it did not use all the possible cabinet space.
After
The kitchen now offers bright, airy vibes. Since the dividing walls between the dining and living rooms are load-bearing and hide a basement staircase, we couldn’t change the kitchen layout. We didn’t need to, though, to make it more functional.
The homeowner’s desire for a neutral yet modern look resulted in minimalist shaker-style cabinets that look beautiful and provide ample storage. The peninsula was shortened, and a drawer was added above the end cabinet for complete storage from top to bottom. The countertops were swapped for sleek, durable quartz, and the roll-top cabinet was replaced with a convenient appliance cabinet.

Bathroom Remodel
Before
The bathroom’s original space had a color scheme and fixtures that transported visitors back in time once they stepped through the door. The bathtub no longer met the occupants’ needs, as they needed something easier to step in and out of. The double vanity lacked closed storage, and the floor tiles were cracked and peeling.
After
Aside from the layout, it’s hard to believe this bathroom is the same space. The open shower with a medium lip on the basin allows for better accessibility and easier movement. The durable cabinetry offers plenty of storage space. The laundry baskets are now out of plain sight and in the tall cabinet. Together with the homeowners, we were able to completely modernize the look and function of their bathroom.

- Vanity: Onyx vanity top w/ double wave bowl
